Bratwurst cream ragout with Mashed Potatoes

This Bratwurst Cream Ragout is a rich, comforting, and hearty dish featuring sliced bratwurst sausages simmered in a creamy sauce with onions and mushrooms, served over smooth and buttery mashed potatoes. It’s an easy yet indulgent meal,

Ingredients: (Serves 3-4)

For the Bratwurst Cream Ragout:
4 bratwurst sausages, sliced into bite-sized pieces
1 tbsp butter or oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 cup mushrooms, sliced (button or cremini)
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ cup chicken or beef broth
½ cup heavy cream
1 tsp Dijon mustard (for depth of flavor)
½ tsp smoked paprika (optional, for extra warmth)
½ tsp salt & black pepper (to taste)
1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
For the Mashed Potatoes:
3 large potatoes, peeled and diced
2 tbsp butter
½ cup milk or heavy cream
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Mashed Potatoes
1️⃣ Boil diced potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (about 15 minutes).
2️⃣ Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and black pepper until creamy. Keep warm.
Step 2: Cook the Bratwurst Cream Ragout
3️⃣ Heat butter or oil in a pan over medium heat. Add bratwurst slices and cook until browned. Remove and set aside.
4️⃣ In the same pan, sauté onions and mushrooms for about 3 minutes until soft.
5️⃣ Add garlic, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
6️⃣ Pour in broth and let simmer for 2 minutes to deglaze the pan.
7️⃣ Stir in cream and Dijon mustard, then return the bratwurst to the pan. Simmer for 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
8️⃣ Garnish with fresh parsley.
